The Charm of Gatlinburg Hotels

Known as the gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains, Gatlinburg, Tennessee stretches for 2 miles along the Little Pigeon River at the foot of Mount Le Conte.

A popular mountain resort, Downtown Gatlinburg hotels offer comfort and affordability. The downtown area has over 20 hotels, none of which carry "big city" price tags. Here, all Gatlinburg hotels are quaint with spacious country grounds and clean mountain air.

The Great Smoky Mountains sprawl across more than half a million acres of terrain, and surround this small town with towering peaks. Visitors come to this area for the scenery and outdoor activities, which are among the best in the country.

Unspoiled land, river rapids and quiet, misty mountains inspire visitors to remember there is life outside a busy city. Gatlinburg hotels are centrally located in the downtown area for convenience and the city provides the necessities for those headed up the mountain for hiking, biking, white water rafting or camping.

Traffic in the Smoky Mountains can be heavy at times, especially along Highway 66 during the peak travel season. July and October are the highest travel months and visitors trying to get here during the busiest times are advised to opt for less-traveled and scenic routes to get to Gatlinburg to avoid the traffic.

Do not expect to find a five-star resort like the Ritz-Carlton in Gatlinburg. The hotels here are simple, but very charming. They have a rugged mountain character that matches the town. Visitors however, can expect to find Howard Johnson, Best Western and charming, locally owned motels.

Not only does Gatlinburg sit on the foothills of the amazing Great Smoky Mountains National Park, there is a lot to see in this small town. The Gatlinburg Convention Center offers special events, and craft fairs in April, July and October. During the winter, the town celebrates Winterfest with a parade, crafts show and other special events.
